Stay Hydrated, Even in Winter: DIY Electrolyte Drinks for Cold-Weather Movement

It’s easy to forget about hydration in winter, you’re not sweating buckets or sun-soaked at the beach, after all. But whether you're powering through early morning gym sessions, winter hikes, or keeping up with your kids' sports training, your body still needs support.

Hydration plays a key role in energy, recovery, and overall wellness - especially when you're moving, training, or simply braving those frosty starts. These DIY electrolyte drinks are quick to make, naturally balanced, and a clean way to support your body in cooler months.

And yes, a couple of them are even delicious served warm.

Lemon Lime Lift (Warm or Cold)

Zingy, bright, and packed with natural electrolytes - this one’s brilliant after a cold morning workout or late-night game. In winter, we love it slightly warmed for a cosy citrus pick-me-up.

Ingredients

  • 300ml coconut water

  • 60ml lemon juice

  • 60ml lime juice

  • 30ml orange juice

  • 1 Tbsp BeeNZ Kānuka or Mānuka Honey

  • Pinch of sea salt

To make: Gently warm the coconut water (don’t boil), then stir in the rest until the honey dissolves. Serve warm in a mug or chill in your bottle for post-workout hydration.

Golden Hour Orange (Immunity Boost)

Sweet, soothing, and full of vitamin C - this one’s ideal after outdoor movement or for winding down in the evenings. The pomegranate adds a subtle blush and a boost of antioxidants.

Ingredients

  • 180ml coconut water

  • 240ml orange juice

  • 60ml lemon juice

  • 1 Tbsp BeeNZ Kānuka or Mānuka Honey

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • Optional: 15ml pomegranate juice

To make: Mix and stir until combined. Sip chilled after training or serve warm in a thermos while you’re on the sideline at Saturday sport.

Real Fruit Punch (Cold-Weather Recovery Hero)

Deeply restorative and packed with tart cherry and cranberry for muscle recovery, this blend is perfect after intense workouts or long winter walks. The flavour is bold, earthy, and naturally energising.

Ingredients

  • 180ml coconut water

  • 90ml tart cherry juice

  • 60ml pineapple juice

  • 60ml cranberry juice

  • 30ml lemon juice

  • 1 Tbsp BeeNZ Kānuka or Mānuka Honey

  • Pinch of sea salt

To make: Stir to blend, strain if desired, and serve chilled or gently warmed. This one’s a grounding winter favourite.

BeeNZ Kānuka Honey

BeeNZ Mānuka Honey

Kānuka Honey vs Mānuka Honey
Kānuka and Mānuka may sound alike, but their flavors tell different stories. Mānuka is bold and mineral in taste—great with roasted veggies or sharp cheeses, but can be a bit overpowering in recipes. Kānuka, on the other hand, is gentle and floral, with soft sweet notes that blend beautifully. In something like a strawberry salsa, Kānuka honey brings out the sweetness in the strawberries and ties everything together in one smooth, balanced bite.
